Our Pastor
Prior to surrendering to the pastoral ministry in the early 1990s, Jerry served over 5 years as the Minister of Music at Canaan Baptist Church until October 1, 1990. He was also ordained as a deacon by Canaan Baptist Church on October 27, 1985, and served until being called into the pastoral ministry.
In July of 1993, Jerry became the Minister of Music and Education at Fernbank Baptist Church in Lamar County, Alabama. In 1995, Jerry was licensed and ordained into the gospel ministry by Canaan Baptist Church at the request of Fernbank Baptist Church. Fernbank served as Jerry’s first bi-vocational pastorate until 2000. At this time He was called to Highland Baptist Church in Gordo Alabama and served until 2005.
Following his resignation from Highland, he returned to Fernbank as their interim pastor. This turned into an additional five years as their pastor until his resignation in 2010. Following a lengthy sabbatical, Jerry was called to Bethlehem Baptist Church in Reform Alabama in 2011 and served until 2018 as their pastor. In 2019 Jerry accepted the call to Forest Baptist Church where he currently serves as pastor.
Along with several mentors, Jerry also enrolled in the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary’s remote campus in Columbus Mississippi to further his biblical and pastoral education. Upon completion of the seminary programs, Jerry was awarded the Christian Education Certificate on October 9, 1995.
Jerry’s mission and vision statement is found in 2 Timothy 4:1-5. “I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they
will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”
